Translation FAQ

When it comes to the T-Engine, admittedly, there is only limited material available in English, and even lesser in other languages.  To these ends, I would like to make this site available in as many languages as possible. The only problem is that I don’t know any other languages well enough! So, if you know any other language - Thai, Vietnamese, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, ... - please help!

Q: I don’t know Japanese, can I still help?
A: Yes.  As long as you know enough English to understand this website, and know some other language, it is enough.

Q: Do I need to know HTML or use some particular tool?
A: No. You can do the translation in a text file if you like. I shall apply the formatting, etc. I would, however, appreciate it if you could at least run a spell-check on the file before submitting it to me.

Q: Do I have to translate the entire website?
A: No. You only need to translate as little (or as much) as you like. It would be great if you can translate all the pages, but it is fine if you can translate only a few pages.

Q: What is the minimum amount I need to translate?
A: It would be good if you can translate at least one article. However, if you don’t know have the time for a whole article, you could help by translating only a part of it - for example, you could translate a few questions and answers from this page. Any amount is a contribution.

Q: What languages are important?
A: Any language.

Q: What if I do not understand the full article?
A: It is OK if you cannot translate the whole article. Just translate as much as you can. For parts you do not understand, leave the original English part in your translation. Hopefully, someone else will be able to translate the missing bits.

Q: Will any one proof-read the translation?
A: No. We hope that some visitor to the web-site will point out errors (if any).

Q: Will I have to be responsible for the article and maintain it?
A: If you want to. If not, articles shall be maintained centrally - and driven by community effort.

Q: Can I be responsible for all articles in my language?
A: Yes.  If you want.  You could be the editor for all articles in that language.

Q: Are there any tools that can help me?
A: You could use an online translator, such as or other websites.  Most of these tools will give you a rough translation. The sentences may sound weird - you can then help by correcting the articles.

Q: How do I get started?
A: Get in touch. Email or use the feedback form to get in touch. Just let me know which language you can help with - and how much you want to be involved.  If you have translated any articles, just mail me a copy. Remember to let me know your name so that I can mention your contribution.

If you have any other questions, please send me an email.
